See the following link for an Information Bulletin IB-111 prepared by the City of Carlsbad that summarizes their requirements for ADU’s.
The City is working towards developing a set of permit-ready ADU plans and expects them to be available late 2023. Until then, a homeowner will need to have a set of building plans prepared and plan checked by the City.
Applications for Building Permits for ADU’s require the payment of plan check and inspection fees. If the ADU exceeds 750 sf, Impact Fees will also need to be paid.
There is a requirement to process a Minor Coastal Development Permit if the project is located within the Coastal Zone.
